Finally...it's over, I am done with interview unless Haas wants me to (sigh...still no news)
It was raining hard yesterday morning so I thought I headed to San Francisco 2 hours before the interview just to avoid traffic jam. Luckily I made the right decision to take I-280 instead of 101, I cruised smoothly and got there an hour early.
Anyhow, my interviewer was really nice, he used to work in the same industry like I do so he didn't raise his eyebrows when I threw in semiconductor craps. He started out by introducing himself and then asked me questions like:
1. Why Lauder?
2. What's your long-term and short-term goal?
3. What's the most challenging cross-cultural experience
4. What's a leadership to you?
5. Who do you admire the most as a leader? again, I said it's Meg Whitman (this time i remembered her last name)
6. What do you do for fun?
7. How do you learn your mandarin?
8. Have you given a thought about the thesis to graduate from Lauder?
I asked him how he juggled two majors and he told me about his experience on a wheelchair in the first semester because he got injured from playing rugby. When it snowed heavily, he had to count on his classmate to borrow notes and tutor him. So i guess Lauder people is not so cuthroat. I also learned that Lauder is founded by Estee Lauder's family. The website only mention Leonard Lauder as one of the founders but I wasn't sure if he's related to Estee Lauder. So yeeey, what a connection....The interview went for almost 80 minutes. We just got sidetracked as we shared about our experience in Taiwan (he used to work in Taiwan). I felt good so hopefully good news will come through (crossing my fingers)
My boss announced the merit increase which will take effect April 1st but won't show up till April 27th, arrgfgggh I probably won't have much time to enjoy it. I got a pretty good review this year and I thanked my boss for giving me an opportunity to travel and be given a much more challenging role.
Anderson admit day is approaching fast. I contacted the comittee since they have a student hosting and signed myself up. My host is really friendly and she has another 3 students who will crash at hers, maybe we'll have a fun slumber party, I can't wait.
It seems that I have little time left to do what I want it to do before school start. At first I was thinking about Piano class but that didn't happen coz my trip to taiwan had caused me to lose 2 classes. I want it to do French at the community center but it was cancelled coz of not enough interest. I am thinking about doing swimming when I go back to indonesia. I guess I'll just read more, hike more and go to gym more.
Speaking about reading, here are some books I am thinking to read
1. Liar's poker (though i am not going to finance)
2. Good to great
3. Long Walk to Freedom (biography of Nelson Mandela)
