I have never won a jackpot before. The minute Haas adcom called to congratulate me, I felt like I've just won a jackpot. His call concluded my whole getting into b-school journey...(not counting the employment verification and getting my visa stamped)
Well, I was celebrating for a few hours before I realized that choice making process is looming. I tried what the typical b-school nerds would do: create a decision matrix...I also discussed it with my loved ones (boyfriend, family and friends)....First i narrowed down my top two choices (Haas and Wharton) then I generated the matrix which included reputation (Wharton won), personal (Haas won), career prospects (Haas won considering I want to end up in west coast), weather (Haas won) etc etc etc....then i weighed the importance of each category. I almost drove my boyfriend crazy when i went back and forth pondering this decision every 2 hours but after a careful consideration, I am going to say yes to aaheeem aaheeem Haas.
Yeah some of you may think "she's crazy to turn down Wharton" and I don't blame you. After thinking it through, I came to a conclusion that there're more to life than just reputation. At the end of the day, I want to be able to balance my career and personal life. On the bright side, my saying no to other schools will help those waitlisted move a step closer to getting in.
To cool my head down after an intense choice making process (which had started the minute I submitted my application to Haas and Wharton), I treated myself to nice spa in Sonoma County with my girlfriends...oh those facial and body scrubs were so soothing...
Tomorrow is another exciting day, I am going to tell my manager and maybe give my one month notice by the end of the week...I am going to spend time with my family in Indonesia afterwards.
